Town of Cromwell Hydrant Ordinance
The Town of Cromwell Hydrant Ordinance authorizes the Cromwell Fire District to regulate the installation and maintenance of hydrants in the Town of Cromwell. The Cromwell Fire Marshal’s Office is responsible for monitoring compliance with the ordinance.
The ordinance requires any property owner who has installed private fire hydrants to annually subscribe to and pay for maintenance servicing and testing for each privately owned hydrant. This service is available through the Cromwell Fire District or a qualified service company. Documentation of compliance should be forwarded to the Fire Marshal Office by November 1. The documentation should be mailed to Cromwell Fire Marshal, One West St., Cromwell, CT 06416 or faxed to 860-613-2406.
The Water Division will contract with individual property owners to maintain and test privately owned hydrants at a cost of $150 per hydrant per year. This cost is billable at the time the service is rendered and is due within thirty days of the billing date. This service includes the maintenance and testing of each hydrant in accordance with the standards promulgated by the National Fire Protection Association, Inc. (NFPA). If we observe that the hydrant is in need of painting or repair we will notify the property owner. The property owner is responsible for the cost of any repairs that may be required to ensure that the hydrant is fully operational and well maintained.
Any private hydrant owner that wants to participate in the maintenance and testing program that is offered by the Cromwell Fire District should contact the Water Division at 860-635- 4420, Extension 1002.
